Cowboys Saturday Huddle-Up: Milestone Time

IRVING - If the Cowboys offense gains 400+ total yards on Monday against the Redskins, it will set a new franchise record for most consecutive games with 400-plus yards, with five. It's enough to make Dez Bryant blush. Almost. Huddle-Up!

The Big Lead

Our man Fish presented to Dez Bryant the news that he's in the top three in the NFL in receptions converting third downs into first downs.

"I almost wish you wouldn't have told me that,'' replied Dez, trying to keep it humble but then also answering a Fish question about why he's cut a little weight. "I don't know ... because it looks good.''

The Cowboys look good in every way as they spend the weekend with final tuneups for Game 8. On Saturday, Doug Free (who might return to practice as early as next week) was the only rotation player not practicing, as Tony Romo, Anthony Spencer and Bruce Carter all working (with Rolando McClain and Justin Durant seemingly being featured in Nickel work). It's all-hands-on-deck time and a chance for numbers to explode against the struggling Redskins, who have lost eight of their last 11 meetings with Dallas.

If the Cowboys offense gains 400+ total yards on Monday against the Redskins, it will set a new franchise record for most consecutive games with 400-plus yards, with five. It's enough to make Dez Bryant blush. Almost.

Opening Monologue: 00:00:34

It's Washington Week and NO ONE seems to care, why? Because Dallas has dominated the rivalry for the last decade and a half. Also, what can the defensive turnabout be attributed to? KD dives right in and checks off a list that includes Dez Bryant and 11 NFL players who haven't even played a down in 2014.

Keith Mullins: 00:12:50
Keith and KD go to work on the attitude of the Cowboys, the lack of a pass rush and other topics. They differ in opinion on the value of Sterling Moore and end things up with a conversation about teabagging. Can't miss.

Mike Fisher: 00:48:23
Fish brings the goods as he and KD discuss the league's QBs and the value of running. Where do the Dallas Cowboys still have holes? What can be gleaned as we near the halfway point of the season. Straight from the Ranch.

COWBOYS VS REDSKINS MILESTONES

Tony Romo can extend his streak of consecutive games with a TD pass to 36, which would tie Brett Favre's for the 5th longest streak in NFL history.

Romo needs 194 passing yards to move ahead of 49ers QB John Brodie for the 36th most in NFL history.

Romo has 8 career wins vs the Washington Redskins, tied for the most vs any opponent in Romo's career (also has 8 vs the Giants). A win would give Tony Romo more wins vs the Redskins than any other team.

Also: Romo can extend his streak of consecutive games with multiple TD passes to 6, just one game shy of the longest streak of his career (7) ... can extend his streak of consecutive games with 60+ completion % to 10 (The longest streak of his career is 17) ... can extend his streak of consecutive games with a QB rating over 90.0 to 7, which is the 2nd longest of his career. (The longest streak of Romo's career is 8) ... and if Tony Romo throws 4 TD's vs the Washington Redskins, he will pass Donovan McNabb for the most career TD's vs the Redskins in NFL history.

DeMarco Murray can extend his NFL record of most consecutive 100+ yard rushing games to start a season to 8.

DeMarco Murray needs just 87 rushing yards to reach 1,000 on the season. ... and of course, 2,000 is on a lot of people's minds. Just not DeMarco's.

“He never talks about it,” Dez said. “Never talks about it at all. But the other guys around him, we all notice it and think about it. That’s why we practice hard, so we can give him that opportunity to reach that. That’s a big deal. ... I think he can (reach 2,000). I honestly think he can do it.”

Murray is on pace to rush an NFL-record 427 times for 2,086 yards.

Said Bryant: “He’s killing it. He makes things that much easier for us. And he’s going to continue to keep doing it, because we believe in him. He believes in himself.”

If DeMarco carries the ball 30 times and scores 2 TD's against the Redskins, he will have matched the number of carries and touchdowns he had all of last season.

Meanwhile, Dez Bryant needs 2 catches to pass Jay Novacek for the 8th most receptions in franchise history.

Jason Witten can extend his NFL record of career catches vs the Washington Redskins (99) and needs 72 receiving yards to pass Donald Driver for the 39th in NFL history.

Dan Bailey needs to make 2 more 40+ yard field goals to tie Rafael Septien for the most in franchise history (36) and needs to kick one FG (or 3 extra points) to pass Bob Hayes for the 4th most points in franchise history, giving him 457.

If the Cowboys offense gains 400+ total yards they will set a new franchise record for most consecutive games with 400+ yards, with 5.

If the Cowboys win on Monday night vs the Redskins, it will be their 7th consecutive win this season, matching the 2nd longest regular season winning-streak in franchise history. The longest Cowboys regular season winning-streak is 8.

THE FINAL WORD

“I invited him to come work out with me and kind of be a partner. I knew it was good for me to be with a young guy that can push you. ... He’s always kind of latched onto certain people and asked questions, eager to learn. The thing I like about him since an early age was you could always see that he wanted to be really, really good.'' -- Jason Witten, on his offseason workouts with DeMarco Murray.
