Cowboys Re-Sign Coleman + Lawrence
The Dallas Cowboys have re-signed exclusive-rights linebacker Cam Lawrence. That's an easy call. They will also retain free-agent defensive tackle Davon Coleman ... but that process was a little more complicated.
Retaining exclusive-rights free agents is an easy process; guard Ron Leary will soon be kept under that same category, joining Lawrence, the 6-2, 234-pound special-teamer who had seven tackles in the season-ending win at Washington.
Coleman, an undrafted rookie in 2014 from Arizona State, comes under a different heading. He was highly-regarded last summer, started Week 1 against San Francisco (recording four tackles), but then sustained a calf injury. He was cut on Nov. 22 then re-signed to the practice squad for the rest of the year.
CowboysHQ sources tell us Coleman, 6-2, 276, wasn't re-upped weeks ago in part because the coaching staff wished him to be more "serious'' about football as a job.
