The Miami Dolphins make the first big move of the draft, moving up to snag the best running back. Fearful that Atlanta had their sites set, they send picks 14 and 47 (1530 pts) to Chicago (1500).

Not only are two running backs gone in the Top 20, but teams traded up to get them. Things are about to get crazy in this draft. Detroit gives picks 23 and 54 (1120 pts) to Houston for picks 16116 and 235 (1064.6 pts) and leapfrogs San Diego for the Badger.

Dallas makes a small move back, as Indianapolis wants to just the Broncos for the final first-round offensive lineman. Indianapolis trades picks 29 and 128 for pick 27. Here, they have two players they are linked to available and feel that they will still have one on the board with this minor move back, but also pick up an additional fourth rounder.

DENVER

S DAMARIOUS RANDALL

ARIZONA STATE
29*
NY JETS

QB BRYCE PETTY

BAYLOR

Both players Dallas had targeted are still available, so why move back? The Cowboys are all too happy to accept the call after Green Bay refuses to trade out of the first round and the Jets look to move ahead of New Orleans to secure QB3 of the draft. New York trades picks 37 and 70 (770 pts) for picks 29 and 127 (685 pts). Dallas ends up with Picks 37, 60, 70 and 91; four picks in the Top 100. Also remaining are picks 128 in the fourth round, 163 in the fifth and their two seventh rounders.

Moving up to get a quarterback is costly, and the Jets are giving up so much value (the point differential is worth a Top 100 pick) that the Cowboys brass signs off on moving on from players no one would expect them to pass up, Bud Dupree and Kevin Johnson.

CB KEVIN JOHNSON

In this scenario, Dallas would be left to select from the following group of players remaining on their Big Board (see our Final version, here): DE Randy Gregory, CB Byron Jones, 3T Carl Davis, CB Jalen Collins, CB PJ Williams, LB Benardrick McKinney, RB Duke Johnson, DE Shane Ray and others. At least 4 of these players will still be on the board when Dallas selects.
