Cowboys Depth Chart + 54-Man Predictions

The Cowboys are ready to get their offseason workouts and OTAs underway. We take a look at how things might play out for the 90 players invited to spend the summer with the big club. For now.

We're just four months away. The Cowboys will take on the New York Giants on Sunday night, September 13th, leaving four months of hard work, dedication and preparation for the players and staff in Dallas. While there will likely be several moves made between now and the roster cutdown days in August, we do currently have 90 players on the Cowboys roster that we can poke, prod and analyze as to their fit and value.

Here, we'll do just that, and attempt to put players in their rightful spots, creating our best-guess scenario as to not just the 54 man roster (an extra spot will be available due to Greg Hardy's suspension, however long it ends up being) that starts the year, but also the depth chart.

A couple of notes here. The biggest omission for some people will be Darren McFadden not being listed. I cannot shake the feeling that he was "Joseph Randle arrest/suspension insurance" and will struggle to make the team. I'm in the minority here, and will eat crow accordingly. I also don't have Brandon Weeden making the team, because, well... I saw the Arizona game.

Randy Gregory is basically the backup to whomever is starting at RDE, I expect that to be his role as Mincey starts in Hardy's suspension and once Greg Hardy returns and Mincey shifts to backup Lawrence and kick inside.

Morris Claiborne claims he'll be full-go for training camp, so I'll believe him until I see differently. He'll make an excellent dime corner, we hope.

I chose Ray Agnew over Jed Collins at fullback simply because cutting Collins gives Dallas a 4th compensatory pick in the 2016 draft.

Goodley won the 54th slot as the projected return man and Dwayne Harris replacement, but I'm not at all sure it goes to him. I think that the return duties could easily go to Lance Dunbar and Ryan Williams depending on how each fare during camp. The other UDFA receivers are in the discussion as well, obviously. An interesting battle was for the final two active defensive end spots, with Ryan Russell and Jack Crawford beating out Ben Gardner.

Someone will be cut to make way for a camp leg to keep Dan "Split'Em" Bailey fresh, and you'd expect the team to bring in a veteran safety to mix with the three guys that have experience. Also, don't at all be suprised to see Dallas go out and acquire a runnning back to round out the rotation (in place of McFadden). It could even be a bell cow back, and I'm not talking about Adrian Peterson.
