Inside Jeremy Mincey Hip-Hop 'Cowboys Anthem'
Dallas Cowboys defensive lineman Jeremy Mincey is not only the incumbent sack leader here ... he's also a businessman with a passion for music. And now he's produced "Cowboys Anthem,'' a hip-hop song that he debuted on 105.3 The Fan and discussed in a conversation with our Mike Fisher and friends:
GIVE US SOME BACKGROUND ON THE SONG -- "I'm just a big fan on music. I've always been and I always will be. I think it integrates with what we're doing now. It brings a lot of energy and enthusiasm to the game. So, why not do it?"
ARE YOU IN THE BUSINESS SIDE OF MUSIC -- "Yeah. I do music, write music, put it together, tape the right kind of sound for different guys, make a great song. I mean, it's the same as playing football: you've got to have the right collective, right group of guys to win games. So, in the music business, it's the same."
WHOSE iPOD DO YOU WANT PLAYING? -- "I would maybe like Romo because he has a nice mix of stuff. Romo plays hip-hop, not popular hip-hop, but he plays hip-hop."
WHOSE iPOD DON'T YOU WANT PLAYING? -- "I won't play Sean Lee's. Sean's a robot. He's programmed."
ARE WE GOING TO HEAR YOUR SONG DURING PRACTICE SOMEDAY? -- "I hope so. They played song I got called 'Keep Sweatin' from a couple years ago. They loved it. So, they threw it in the mix all the time during warm-ups."
"America, how are you doing today? This is the 'Cowboys Anthem' featuring DJ London and JP Rev. Let's go."
SHAN SHARIFF'S TAKE: "First of all, it was very smart because we've been looking for an anthem since 'We Dem Boyz' has probably been the number one seed. So, this one's a little smart. Obviously, a little horse theme going on through there, and I like you rapping in it as well. Then, you have a Marinelli drop, a Deion drop, Cowboys-Indians reference, the Redskins, throwing up the X. So, I like all the Cowboys nuggets you threw in there, man."
WHO WAS THE WRITER? -- "I actually recorded this song like on Meerkat. I didn't write most of my part; I was just punching in just off the top of the head."
DO YOU HAVE TEAMMATES WHO WILL GIVE HONEST FEEDBACK? -- "Yeah, Romo loved it. He pulled me to the side and he was like, 'That was awesome.' (Turns out, Dez is in, too.)
"My percentage of the proceeds, I'm going to be donating to charities, lot of homeless, feed the kids foundations and things like that. Yeah, just giving back. It is actually picking up steam. We actually got 14,000 views on Youtube (so far)."
HAVE YOU TALKED TO JERRY ABOUT PLAYING IT IN AT&T STADIUM? - "We're working on that. I think it's going to be one of those bangers, man. Everybody's going to love it."
"I got plenty more coming. Next song I'm going to drop, first game of the season, is one featuring Greg Hardy. It's like the D-line anthem, the rushmen. we're going to keep it going, man."
