Cowboys Nation's Week 12 Rooting Guide: Who Needs To Lose

For the second consecutive week, Dallas got much of the help they were looking for. Will the trend continue in Week 12?

They got a win! The Cowboys finally broke their seven-game losing streak and with the win, kept their faintest playoff hopes alive. So excited were we, we double-dipped on the podcasts this week. Joey Ickes joined to help breakdown all the aspects of the team's performance, listen to that, then Fish and Keith Mullins stopped by to start worrying about this week's opponents, the Carolina Panthers.

In Week 10, we sketched out six games which would help Dallas' chances and they all turned out in the Cowboys favor. Our heroes simply couldn't muster their own win. Last week, several other games with Dallas implications broke in Dallas' favor and the Cowboys did their part.

Unfortunately, the road to a Wild Card spot became even more elusive. It's far-fetched that Dallas would be able to climb over as many as 10 teams to earn a wild card spot, but there still remains a possibility. On Twitter, I likened the situation to lottery tickets. Of course, winning the NFCE is far less daunting of a task (still rather difficult), but who turns down extra lottery tickets? Not this guy.

______NFC East______

In the NFCE, Dallas sits behind all three teams, with two head-to-head games remaining against Washington. Here’s a look at the remaining schedule of the NFC East teams.

Cowboys(3-7) NY Giants(5-5) Philly(4-6) Wash(4-6)
Week Opponent Win %   Opponent Win %   Opponent Win %   Opponent Win %
12 Carolina 1.000   @ Washington 0.400   @ Detroit 0.300   NY Giants 0.500
13 @ Washington 0.400   NY Jets 0.500   @ New Eng. 1.000   Dallas 0.300
14 @ Green Bay 0.700   @ Miami 0.400   Buffalo 0.500   @ Chicago 0.400
15 NY Jets 0.500   Carolina 1.000   Arizona 0.800   Buffalo 0.500
16 @ Buffalo 0.500   @ Minnesota 0.700   Washington 0.400   @ Philadelphia 0.400
17 Washington 0.400   Philadelphia 0.400   NY Giants 0.500   @ Dallas 0.300
  Avg Opp. Win% 0.583   Avg Opp. Win% 0.567   Avg Opp. Win% 0.583   Avg Opp. Win% 0.400

Things have changed quite a bit in two weeks; with the Giants expected loss to New England, their remaining schedule actually comes in "easier" than both the Cowboys and Eagles; who's back-to-back losses to opponents believed to be inferior is really costing them. Washington's schedule is silly-easy.

So here's a look at the Week 12 matchups that will further Dallas' chances of getting invited to the dance come January. As usual, any AFC-NFC matchup (NO@HOU, STL@CIN, TAM@IND, PIT@SEA) Cowboys fans are rooting for the AFC participant.

The Eagles are imploding and the only regret Dallas fans have is the recent rumor that the team and Chip Kelly will part ways after the season. Is there any chance CowboysNation can get a vote in the discussion? Detroit has won two in a row, but of course the NFCE is the most likely path to a championship. Besides, it's not like you really need to be told to root against the Iggles. ROOT FOR: DETROIT

Green Bay re-established their hold on the NFCN last week with a win over the Vikings, making the Wild Card route a little more difficult. With six games to go, now the Top WC contender is four games up on Dallas in the loss column. It's a pretty safe bet to let them go and focus on the other WC which is well within reach. That means, Chicago needs to get out the way.  ROOT FOR: GREEN BAY

Falcons (-1)

Which brings us to this Sunday matchup. Three weeks ago, we learned that Atlanta's sexy record was built on the back of defeating a slew of backup QBs, not real starters. Now that they are facing franchise QBs, they are plummeting back to earth. This matchup of the two current WC place holders can go one of two ways. If the Falcons win, then the final WC team is 7-4, 3 games up with a head-to-head win; virtually closing the door on Dallas' WC chances. So...  ROOT FOR: MINNESOTA

This one is pretty simple, especially considering a look at the remaining schedules of the two teams. The Giants are two games up on Dallas, and it would help a lot of they lost at least one game before taking on Carolina and Minnesota back-to-back. Dallas still has two head-to-head matchups with Washington, therefore controlling their own destiny there. ROOT FOR: WASHINGTON

Nothing says how unlikely a wild card spot is for Dallas more than the fact the 49ers have to be included here, because Dallas is behind them in the race, too. ROOT FOR: ARIZONA
