The Cowboys released cornerback Markese Fitzgerald and guard Noah Swartz last week, and they also re-signed kicker Ola Kimrin and added cornerback Jeff Sanchez to the mix.
Cundiff, who hasn't exactly impressed anyone through the early stages of training camp, has been much more productive since the re-addition of Kimrin.
On the otherhand, he can still fill the heat from his head coach.
"We both know without having to talk to each other that if I don't do my job, he's not going to keep me around," Cundiff said of Bill Parcells. "Everything is clear-cut when you're a specialist. You either do your job or you don't."
In addition, the Cowboys brought in running back Frank Moreau for a tryout but did not sign him to a contract.
BATTLE OF THE WEEK: Mario Edwards vs. Derek Ross at RCB -- Edwards started camp competing with Terence Newman at left cornerback. But Newman has ascended to the top, prompting the Cowboys to move Edwards to the other side. It was a reward to Edwards who has had a nice start to camp and a message to Ross, who looked ragged at times.
OTHER BATTLE FRONTS: Al Johnson vs. Tyson Walter at center -- Johnson has already taken over on the first team, while Walter is getting a look at guard.
Quincy Carter vs. Chad Hutchinson at QB -- Carter has looked better early and offers the Cowboys the mobility that coach Bill Parcells likes at the position. Hutchinson helped his cause in Saturday's scrimmage by tossing two touchdown passes.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK: DT Willie Blade -- Blade was considered a bust when the Cowboys picked him in the third round of the 2001 draft. He didn't play as a rookie and entered last season out of shape before being cut at the end training camp. He is a new man in 2003 after getting another chance in Dallas. He is in great shape and has impressed so far. The Cowboys have him working at first team next to La'Roi Glover.
ROOKIE REPORT: CB Terence Newman has already moved to the first team and has impressed Bill Parcells with his instincts and quickness. LB Bradie James has been very impressive and could contend for situational playing time in the regular defense. DE Kevin DeRonde has caught Parcells' attention and is being looked at as a part-time linebacker on passing downs.
INJURY REPORT: The Cowboys have been extremely fortunate so far on the injury front. DE Darrell Wright underwent surgery to repair a fractured hand. He is out in out indefinitely. WR Antonio Bryant also had surgery on his left pinky but still managed to make it to practice the very same day.
