After spending most of last season on the Cowboys' practice squad, former Clemson QB Woodrow Dantzler continues to fight, scratch, and claw his way through the preseason in 2003.
While he didn't have anything to write home about from Pittsburgh Thursday evening, he has had plenty of exciting moments through the first 3 weeks of training camp.
"I'm trying to figure out what else can he do part-time, to add to his value," said Cowboys head coach Bill Parcells, who has admitted that he is trying to find a way to keep Dantzler on the roster.
"He is smart and he is a good athlete. He's a diligent worker and he's willing to attempt anything you ask him to attempt, and he tries to do it with confidence. You like a guy like that and you try to find something for him to do, if you can."
We caught up with Woody after Thursday nights' 15-14 loss to the Steelers to get his thoughts on his chances of making the team.
How do you feel about your new role on defense?
Dantzler: I wanted to work hard to have a chance to make this team, so I just went out and did it.
Have the guys around you been helpful?
Dantzler: The guys who have been there have a been a big help. I try to talk to them as much as possible. I listen to the guys who have been there.
Does it help that you were a quarterback at Clemson now that you are playing in the secondary?
Dantzler: You pretty much know what they're looking for in a certain situation. In specific defenses, you know what a quarterback my go to. That kind of gives me an edge.
Do you think that it's easier for you to get into a quarterback's head considering that you are a former quarterback yourself?
Dantzler: I doubt if they're thinking about that. I doubt if even half of them out there know I ever played quarterback.
In conclusion, we'd like to thank Woodrow Dantzler for taking time out to speak with us.
Editor's Note: We'd like to also take this opportunity to welcome the newest addition to the SilverStarDigest staff- Chuck Greenwood.
