Cowboys News & Notes

PK Billy Cundiff will survive another week despite missing a 37-yard field goal and getting an extra point blocked. Cowboys coach Bill Parcells said he would be patient with his second-year kicker.

* DT Willie Blade (sprained knee) could return to practice and possibly play against the Giants next Monday after missing the season opener with a sprained knee. Blade's presence is crucial for an undersized Cowboys front that is struggling to stop the run.

* OG Larry Allen survived Sunday's game against Falcons, despite hobbling on a strained hamstring throughout. Allen is not expected to be limited in practice and plans to play through the injury this week against the Giants.

* Toby Gowin had plenty of work Sunday, but the veteran proved why he was brought in to replace the young Filip Filipovic. Gowin finished the game with a 43.5-yard average, including a long of 51 yards and one punt downed inside the 20-yard line.

* RB Aveion Cason only had four touches on offense Sunday night, but he finished with 136 total yards including two carries for 77 yards and a 63-yard touchdown run. Cason also caught two passes for 29 yards and returned two kickoffs for 30 yards.

"The third quarter, as I said after the game, we didn't really have field position at all the majority of the quarter. The one time we did, we were penalized back. We put our defense in a bad position, we didn't respond too well defensively. We didn't really ever get much going offensively in the second half at all. We had one big play in the whole second half. That was it. I was disappointed a little bit in what I know, things we have been doing for a long time or quite a while, and we made some mistakes on pretty elementary stuff that we had kind of been running since minicamp. I don't know if the players had first game jitters or whatever it was. There were some mistakes that shouldn't have been there." * Cowboys coach Bill Parcells.
