Cowboys Hoops Video: Pick-And-Get-Out-The-Way: Rico + Zeke

Dallas Cowboys Hoops: Pick-And-Get-Out-The-Way, Starring Rico Gathers And Ezekiel Elliott. (But Mostly Rico.)

Ezekiel Elliott was All-Everything in high school at Burroughs High in St. Louis. Football, track and yes, basketball.

Rico Gathers in high school? His focus, before opting to try football as a Dallas Cowboys teammate of Zeke’s, was basketball. Rico was a onsensus top-50 national recruit and the No. 1 recruit in the state of Louisiana, where he was the state’s two-time Player of the Year. As a senior at Riverside Academy in Reserve, his Rebels were 33-10 and won the Class 2A state championship game with him averaging 22 points, 17 rebounds, 4.1 blocks, 2.1 assists.

And yeah, he’s still got it, as he demonstrates here in a little “church basketball’’ on a team that also features Zeke.

On social media, Rico has labeled this a “pick-and-roll.’’ It really looks more like a “pick-and-get-the-hell-out-the-way,’’ but that’s not to say Elliott isn’t a baller.

These are the same games that Jason Witten and Tony Romo used to run. Now it’s a next-gen Cowboys thing … with the hope that Gathers as a tight end can be as dynamic as he is coming off the Zeke screen.
