Bayou QB Headed into the Draft

At an afternoon press conference in Baton Rouge, LSU quarterback Matt Mauck announced his decision to skip his senior season and enter the NFL draft.

Mauck led the Tigers to a second consecutive SEC championship in December and a split of  the national title after leading LSU in the defeat of Oklahoma during the Sugar Bowl.

With a record of 18-2 as a starter, Mauck set a school record with 28 touchdown passes last season. Turning 25 next month and a pre-med major, Mauck was also considering entering dental school.

Tomorrow defensive end Marquis Hill has a press conference scheduled to announce his intentions.  Sources have told us Hill was struggling with the final choice through this weekend.

TFY Analysis: This is no shock as we posted last evening a source has tipped us off Mauck notified Nick Saban this weekend he was leaving for the draft.  We understand why he did it (being 25-years old) and going into 2002 we were high on Mauck after he backed up Rohan Davey the prior season, but injury plagued him during that year.  Mauck needs a lot of work but does not have much time and as a result could end up being drafted very late.  One side note; we heard Nick Saban is not all that unhappy about the decision as he's looking for an excuse to put super freshman JaMarcus Russell behind center.
