Notes from Monday's Weigh-Ins

It was a very active morning at the Adams Mark Hotel as the nations elite weighed-in at the Senior Bowl. A number of head coaches were on hand and a lot of teams were active, even those that will be playing in the Super Bowl in two weeks.

The Panthers scouting staff were at breakfast this morning taking call of congratulations as well as plotting strategy for the rest of the week. One of their main goals is to come out of the Senior Bowl with some offensive linemen they hope to have highly rated on their draft boards. It was they who told us that Ohio State guard Adrian Clark was a last minute fill in and they seemed quite happy about it. Another player they openly spoke about their interests of was Florida blocker Max Starks, who looked big on the scale soon after.

Likewise the Patriots have a full compliment of scouts here. We were surprised to see them take a liking to DeMarco McNeil during weigh-in and they also kept close watch on receiver Ernest Wilford.

We saw four head coaches at weigh-ins this morning; Marty Schottenheimer, coach of the south squad was on hand as was Marvin Lewis, the man in charge of the North. Furthermore Jim Haslett of the Saints took in the proceedings as did Cleveland's Butch Davis. Most coaches usually don't sit in on the weigh-ins so we were a bit surprised.

Two bits of news to announce. Will Poole was dismissed from Boston College and the reasons why were left quite. Word around here is the cover corner can be a bit difficult at times and has already shown that side in his dealings with agents.

Second, we learned yesterday that Brooks Daniels, the linebacker from Alabama who sat out the season for "personnel reasons" will not be returning to Tuscaloosa next year and will make himself available for the draft.
