Practice Report: GridIron Classic

The final game of a long All Star season is played this weekend and practice got underway yesterday. Scouts and coaches alike gathered in Orlando for the first practice of this year's GridIron Classic. Here is a brief look at what went down.

Overall, the scouts are a little disappointed in the talent level. The consensus is the South looked much better in workouts today than the North.

While the feeling is the secondary groups from both squads are weak, one "small school" prospect who looked good was Idaho cornerback Rod Bryant who showed good technique and footwork. Scouts feel he "might" be able to play on the next level.

On the other side of the spectrum Von Hutchins from Ole Miss had a terrible day.

A pair of defensive linemen from the state of Florida stood out. Florida State's Jeff Wombell looked strong and quick playing the three techniques. Florida Gator Darrell Lee looked good as well; Lee was very quick and stood out on the pass rush but had trouble holding up against the run. Auburn's Mark Pera went up against Lee and opened holes for the running game, as coaches were impressed with his hand punch and footwork.

Another Tiger that had a good session and solid practice was defensive tackle Spencer Johnson.
