Larry Fitzgerald: Is it all what it seems?

For the past two weeks the talk has been of Larry Fitzgerald entering the NFL Draft and being a top three pick in this April's affair. But is it the situation as clear cut as it seems to be? The TFY Draft Preview has this exclusive after speaking with the man himself today.

Larry Fitzgerald is presently in Houston making the rounds at Super Bowl media functions and that is where our source caught up with the Pittsburgh wide out. Fitzgerald, who did submit an inquiry into entering next April's draft, set the record straight for us.

First, while Fitzgerald is confident the NFL will accept his application to enter April's draft, he has received no official confirmation from the league to date that he has in fact been cleared for submission into the draft. Fitzgerald stated no timetable has been set as to when he will get a definitive answer from the NFL and he is just waiting on final word.

This goes hand-in-hand with what we reported from the Senior Bowl when Tom Modrak of the Buffalo Bills told us it was neither a clear-cut case nor forgone conclusion that Fitzgerald would automatically be entered into the draft. In fact it was Modrak who told us on January 20th that the league was still investigating the situation.

To properly protect himself, Fitzgerald told our source he has yet to sign with an agent and will wait until the league has made a decision. Not signing with an agent will allow Fitzgerald the option of returning to college for the 2004 season if the league turns down his application.
