Jeff Garcia. No.
Marcellus Wiley. No.
Duce Staley, maybe.
Antoine Winfield, hmm.
And welcome to town, Bert Berry and Adam Meadows.
While the Keyshawn Johnson for Joey Galloway trade remains on hold, there was plenty of head nodding and hand shaking going on at the Cowboys Valley Ranch training complex.
Steve Baker, the agent for free-agent quarterback Jeff Garcia, has called to gauge interest in his client and was told there would be none at this time.
Frustrated Joey Galloway agent Leigh Steinberg, who remains at an impasse with the Buccaneers over an inadequate contract offer that would complete the trade for WR Keyshawn Johnson, has taken the opportunity to try to sell the Cowboys on two other clients, Wiley and Staley.
Wiley, a pass rushing defensive end from San Diego, certainly fills a need position for the Cowboys. However, Steinberg was told that the price-tag on the perennial Pro Bowler would be too high for them.
Wiley was set to visit Seattle on Friday and Baltimore on Monday.
Steinberg said the Cowboys did express some interest in Staley. However, he said they have not yet decided whether to bring the Eagles free agent running back in for a visit. Staley was in Tampa Bay on Wednesday and Thursday and was expected to visit Pittsburgh on Monday.
According a source, the Cowboys have also expressed interest in Buffalo free agent cornerback Antoine Winfield to replace Mario Edwards opposite Terence Newman. However, Winfield signed with the Vikings.
What is certain is that Berry, a defensive end from Denver, and Meadows, an offensive tackle from Indianapolis, were in town Thursday for free-agent visits with the Cowboys.
Berry, who had 12 sacks last season, and agent Gregory Williams toured the team's facility and met with the Cowboys coaches. They left without signing a contract but both sides planned to continue talking. Until Berry signed with Arizona Saturday.
Meadows, who has visited Carolina and Atlanta, arrived in Dallas on Thursday night and is expected to tour the facility and meet with the coaches Friday.
The Cowboys have also expressed an interest in Texans free-agent tackle Greg Robinson-Randall. However, a visit has not yet been set up.
