Cowboys Open at Minnesota

While the complete NFL schedule hasn't been released for the 2004 season, eight teams -- including the Cowboys -- know who their opening day opponents will be.

As part of the NFL Owners Meetings in Palm Beach, Fla., the NFL showcased its plans for Opening Weekend 2004. Among the four games given television priority include the Cowboys, who will meet the Vikings in a nationally televised doubleheader game on FOX.

The season will get underway Thursday, Sept. 9 with a rematch of last year's AFC title game when the Colts travel to meet the Patriots for a 9 p.m. EDT game on ABC.

That will lead into the full opening day on Sunday, Sept. 12. With CBS locked into tennis coverage, the featured late game on FOX at 4:15 p.m. EDT will bring the Cowboys to the Metrodome to face the Vikings.

The season's first Sunday night game will pit division rivals Kansas City at Denver, and the first Monday night game will send defending NFC North champion Green Bay to face defending NFC champion Carolina.

The complete schedule is expected to be released sometime later this week or early next week.

Besides home and away games against NFC East rivals Washington, Philadelphia and the New York Giants, the Cowboys will also host Chicago, Detroit, Cleveland, Pittsburgh and New Orleans, and they will travel to Baltimore, Green Bay, Cincinnati, Seattle, and Minnesota.
