The date of the draft is next Tuesday, July 20th, and as of now there are no major names will be available for teams to select. USC receiver Mike Williams is trying to regain his eligibility and play for the Trojans next year while Maurice Clarett is still in limbo. Some of the names we know are available right now include former Central Florida linebacker Chad Mascoe.
Declared ineligible to play just prior to the start of the '03 season, Mascoe sat out last season after reportedly trying to gain entry into an NAIA school. Mascoe is a solid yet unspectacular run stuffing linebacker but a two down defender.
Pint sized running back Reynaldo Brathwaite, who led the BYU Cougars in rushing last season but was subsequently dismissed from the University is also available. The same is the case with Brathwaite's teammate, safety James Allen.
We had originally been led to believe that another former BYU Cougar, running back Marcus Whalen would also try and enter the supplemental draft. Whalen, a player who looked like a super prospect after his sophomore campaign, was recently beset with injuries and off-the-field problems, the latter leading to his dismissal from the BYU program. Whalen made an attempt to play at I-AA Southern Utah this season but was denied that opportunity by the NCAA.
The name of one available player making the rounds is Eastern Carolina's Ike Emodi, an athletic linebacker with solid playing speed. Defensive end Seante Williams of Jacksonville State and guard Mataio Toilolo from Montana State have also entered Tuesday's draft.
There is also word that a few more defenders from Conference USA could be eligible for the proceedings next week.
Expect full scouting reports on just about all the eligible played to be posted on this site before Tuesday's supplemental process.
