They Said It!

"I very much wanted him to finish up his career as a Titan. We didn't expect his carries or his participation to diminish in our offense this year," said Titans' head coach Jeff Fischer.

Titans' head coach Jeff Fischer on losing Eddie George:
"Philosophically speaking it's hard for me to go to a player and ask him to take a pay cut and then ask him to play hard for you, so I stayed out of that. What I tried to do was encourage him and let him know what his future was going to be like here. I very much wanted him to finish up his career as a Titan. We didn't expect his carries or his participation to diminish in our offense this year. We've got a bright young prospect in Chris Brown, who eventually is going to be our future running back. So Eddie was very much part of our plans and he knew that. He was just not satisfied with the compensation package that we can offer him because of the salary-cap limitations."

Titans owner Bud Adams on losing George:
"We wanted to keep Eddie, but we do have a cap. We really tried. I just don't think he gave Eddie very good advice, that's what I think. It's disappointing. … I shouldn't say much about Lamont because I don't even know the guy. I've never met him. If Eddie had a real good year, he would have made a lot of money. But at the same time we had to structure it. We have 13 draft picks and we were $541,000 under the cap, that doesn't go very far. Today we are $4,700,000 under the cap. But I'd rather have it the other way. I'd rather have Eddie stayed with us and we could have worked out that other situation. We could have done it where he earned a lot of money."

George on leaving the Titans: (Wednesday)
"I shed some tears, there's no doubt about that. You think about a lot of things, everything that's happened, things you'll miss most. The unknown brings a little fear, but also a little excitement. It's a new day. It was a great run with the Titans, and I'm proud to be a part of Titans history. Now I'm getting ready to enter a new chapter in my life and I am adjusting as I go. I am just going to keep moving forward and stay positive. What's done is done and I just have to find the right fit now and make the best of it. I have to go on."
