Cowboys Stronger, Deeper

The Cowboys add a big time target on the defensive line.

The Dallas Cowboys announced the signing of former Jets defensive tackle Jason Ferguson earlier today.

"Our plan was to be very aggressive this year, and be very timely. Our plan was to get the players we wanted and use the resources and any advantage we have to go and get them," said owner Jerry Jones.

"We think that Jason Ferguson is one of those players. He's been a starter from almost, literally, day one. Production, determination are the two characteristics that come to mind when you talk about Jason Ferguson coming to the Dallas Cowboys. What really impacted us was his versatility. He can play in an odd or even front, a 3-4 or a 4-3.

"Jason helps us be stronger, helps us be deeper, and more talented on the defensive front," added Jones.

For Ferguson, it was obvious that he was happy to have this transition from New York to Dallas already behind him.

"I'm just happy to be here, and I'm looking forward to the season starting," said the eight-year pro out of Georgia.

In addition, now that he's coming back and playing with his old coach, Bill Parcells, Ferguson said he feels like he's 'coming home.'

"It was big (having him here). Its not a big change when you already have somebody here that you know. He brought me in this league. There were a lot of things he said and taught me that stick with you. When you need a change, you come back home. And who brought me in the league?

"Being down here and seeing what's here- everybody wants to win down here. Whatever I have to do to get us back to the No. 1 defense, that's what I'm going to do," added Ferguson.

The Cowboys are expected to call a press conference later today to announce the signing of one more free agent- likely Green Bay Packers guard Marco Rivera.

"We've got some more plans. But a part of anything is acting and doing. It was a healthy thing for Jason and a healthy thing for the Cowboys with how he can add value to our team," said Jones.

"There's a huge part of our plan that we've just started. As we move on into free agency, we will see what opportunities are out there for us. I'm not going to say we are done in free agency. I think we are going to have an announcement here later this afternoon."
