With the Cowboys waiting to see what shakes out in free agency, RanchReport.com has come across more rumors involving some of the bigger names still available.
While Dallas continues to stand pat, the longer some of these players remained unsigned, the better the chance one or two could ultimately end up in Dallas.
Here's a quick look at several news and notes from around the league:
* One team that has yet to make a significant splash in free agency this offseason is the Kansas City Chiefs. However, according to several sources, don't expect that to last too much longer. Free agent LB Ed Hartwell and the Chiefs have been talking about a potential deal, even though the former Raven left Kansas City without a deal on Friday.
The Chiefs are also working to sign Samari Rolle and Kendrell Bell, despite several published reports indicating otherwise.
For the Cowboys, the team needs help at linebacker, especially after Dexter Coakley signed with the St. Louis Rams. Hartwell, obviously, could be part of that equation. Nevertheless, as of Monday, there has been no contact between the Cowboys and the former Ravens defender.
* With the Plaxico Rumors floating around several teams in the NFL, RanchReport.com has learned that Burress' attitude may be affecting his ability to sign with either the Vikings or Gaints.
"(Burress) has complained he didn't see the ball enough and wants to be the go-to guy," one source said. "He is looking for a big contract, but isn't convinced it will be coming from Pittsburgh. But, with all the players moving in this first week, not only hasn't he been one of the hot names on people's lists, he hasn't even had a visit with anyone yet."
Burress is scheduled to visit with the Giants today. The Cowboys have still not made a move here, and we do not anticipate any movement with Burress and Dallas in the foreseeable future.
* Safety is still one of the priorities for the Cowboys this offseason. Dwight Smith headlines the early wish list, but Smith appears to be looking harder at the New Orleans Saints, where he would have a chance to play cornerback as opposed to safety.
With less than $7 million in cap room available for the draft and free agency, the Cowboys will continue to look free agent bargains.
A report in the Dallas Morning News suggested the Cowboys could look at free agent safety Idrees Bashir. Bashir played on a terrible Colts defense that rarely saw any plays being made in the secondary. Perhaps with better corners, he could make plays, but in four years in Indianapolis, they were few and far between.
Dallas may be better served in looking to the draft to fill its needs at safety if Bashir is a legitimate option. RanchReport.com has yet to confirm that the Cowboys have talked with Bashir in any capacity.
