As of late Monday evening, the Dallas Cowboys and the New Orleans Saints are still holding discussions regarding defensive end Darren Howard.
As reported yesterday on RanchReport.com, the Saints obviously want as much as they can get for Howard. In an ideal world, New Orleans wants one of the Cowboys' two first round picks.
So far, the Cowboys are not willing to budge.
Dallas is now offering their second round pick, and possibly another future pick, or another player for Howard.
Sources indicate that the Cowboys and Howard are "on the same page" when it comes to signing the defensive end to a long term deal, but that can only happen after a trade is agreed upon between the two teams.
Consequently, the hang up obviously rests with the compensation the Saints would receive in such a move.
RanchReport.com does not have any new information on what round draft pick the Cowboys would be willing to part with in the future. However, it stands to reason that Jerry Jones would be unwilling to part with next year's first round draft pick.
Sources maintain that the Cowboys are anxious to make this deal happen, and that there still remains a better than average chance that the deal will eventually go through.
If the Cowboys are able to hold on to both of their first round picks, it is believed that they will try and trade down from the No. 20 overall selection to acquire more picks. Consequently, Dallas could pick up a new second round pick after trading away their current second round selection.
