The Cowboys added a wide receiver to their roster, signing Ahmad Merritt Monday.
Merritt (5-10, 195), was originally an undrafted free agent out of Wisconsin in 2000. He signed on with the Chicago Bears and was used extensively on their practice squad during his first two seasons.
Merritt then moved into a kick return role, returning 45 kicks in 2002 and 20 kicks in 2003, averaging just over 22 yards per return.
He also recorded 21 special teams tackles over those two seasons. For his career, the former Badger has caught 19 passes for 170 yards in his 29 games.
He returned one kickoff 87-yards during the 2004 preseason, helping the Beats knockoff the Rams 13-10 in overtime.
But that wouldn't be enough to keep him on the 53-man regular season roster. The Bears released Merritt on Sept. 6, 2004 during their final cut before the start of the regular season.
Merritt has also spent time in NFL Europe, playing for the World Bowl Champion Berlin Thunder in 2001.
