Cowboys Hire Three Scouts

The Cowboys announced the hiring of three new scouts on Monday. All three will report to the new Director of College and Pro Scouting - Jeff Ireland.

Mike Murphy (National College Scout) - Murphy scouted the Midwest region for the Seattle Seahawks for the last four years. A native of Vancouver, British Columbia, Murphy spent four years as a pro personnel assistant with the Kansas City Chiefs, before joining the Seahawks. He began his career as an assistant at Iowa State (1990-91) before joining the staffs at Arizona Western (1992) and Bethel College (1993-94). He entered the professional ranks as the linebackers coach of the Ottawa Rough Riders from 1995-96.

Sam Garza (Pro Scout) - Garza has most recently served as the running backs and quarterbacks coach for the Saskatchewan Roughriders of the CFL. Garza also has connections to Texas where he was the quarterbacks coach at UTEP for three years starting in 2000. He also is a native of Harlingen, Texas.

Mitch LaPoint (Western Region) - LaPoint has spent the past six years with the Kansas City Chiefs as a scout and also as a football operations coordinator.
