Cowboys safety Roy Williams is about to join an exclusive yet dubious club.
The NFL is expected to vote at the spring owners meetings May 24-25 in Washington, D.C. whether to ban the horse collar tackle that Williams made famous.
The proposed Roy Williams rule is expected to pass after some tinkering with the proposal that may allow the technique in the interior line but outlaw it in the open field.
The horse-collar tackle, which involves pulling down the runner by grabbing the shoulder pads behind the neck, drew the attention of the safety-conscious league after three players Williams tackled last season using the technique were seriously injured.
Williams would join a list of players whose antics or play have resulted rules changes.
The Cowboys on the dubious yet prestigious list are Deion Sanders (twice), Michael Irvin, Emmitt Smith, Erik Williams and Mel Renfro.
The Cowboys announced Friday that training camp in Oxnard, Ca. will officially start on July 28. The first practice session will take place on July 30. This is the second straight year the Cowboys have held training camp in Oxnard.
