Cowboys Will Sign New TE

Bill Parcells says the Cowboys will sign TE Mike Gomez.

As a direct result of losing two tight ends within the last four days, the Cowboys will bring in another tight end to training camp in Oxnard, Calif.

Head coach Bill Parcells said Sunday afternoon that the organization will look to sign tight end Mike Gomez, who was with the Jacksonville Jaguars and also for the Amsterdam Admirals in NFL Europe last season.

"He'll be here this afternoon," Parcells said of Gomez. "He played in NFL Europe. We get an exemption for him so we don't have to let anybody go."

Gomez had a productive year with the Admirals, which he capped off by catching a 12-yard touchdown pass in the NFL Europe League title game. The Admirals won the game, 27-21.

Chosen in the ninth round of the 2005 NFL Allocated Player Draft by the Amsterdam Admirals after being assigned to NFL Europe by the Buffalo Bills.

He was originally signed with the Jacksonville Jaguars as an undrafted rookie free agent on April 26, 2004.

Gomez is also a former junior college tight end who played two seasons for Illinois as the team's primary long snapper.

The Cowboys will be without Dan Campbell, who had his appendix removed on Thursday, for at least the next 10 days, and also Sean Ryan, who fractured his foot in Saturday afternoon's practice for at least four to five weeks.
