Maybe it's the pleasant weather in SoCal that has prevented players from becoming hot-tempered. But Wednesday's morning workout did feature defensive tackle Leonardo Carson and guard Stephen Peterman engaging in a rasslin' match. The pai went at it twice, and had to be separated -- and drew 'ooohs' from teammates when Carson puntuated the event with a wild headslap.
"There's no place for the in the game,'' coach Bill Parcells said in review. "You get fined $18,000 for getting ejected now. We don't allow it.''
Long-time Parcells watcher Drew Bledsoe conceded that the coach might be telling the truth when he says he's anti-fighting. But, Bledsoe added, "That's football.''
INJURY UPDATE: Neither ankle problems court as serious blows, but offensive lineman Rob Petitti is listed as day-to-day with an ankle contusion. Julius Jones is fine, too, after a scare that caused him to come up hobbling after a goal-line run.
BLEDSOE BUDDIES: It's difficult to quantify unless you are here and talking to players, so you'll have to take a leap of faith with us here: Bledsoe's teammates admire him, like him, follow him.
The QB initially said it might take him a week to earn his teammates' faith. Nah. It took about an hour.
"Drew,'' said tight end Jason Witten, "has that swagger about him.''
ROOKIE HAZING: Remember how Parcells was hesistant to say too many positive things about rookie runner Tyson Thompson? He's now pulling the same trick regarding rookie linebacker Kevin Burnett.
"He's a little cocky,'' Parcells said, "so I'm not going to say anything good about him.''
QUICK HITS: Jacob Rogers continues to impress in his bid to win the first-team right tackle job. ... Parcells said his club charts virtually every throw that the QBs make in practice. And what are the charts showing on Tony Romo vs. Drew Henson (who doesn't seem to be excelling right now)? "We're just getting out of the starting gate and we're not even at the first furlough pole,'' said Railbird Bill. ... Erik Bickerstaff is taking some turns at fullback. ... Looks like rookie Justin Beriault will stay at strong safety for now. ... Rookie runner Marion Barber earned the coach's wrath when he mishandled two balls. "Two times. Two times!'' barked the head coach. We spoke to Barber afterwards, and he seemed to be taking the chewing-out in stride. ... Parcells gave the first hint of how he wants to use his running backs, mentioning the phrase "definitely rotate'' in regard to them. We'll believe it when we see it. ... Ex-Giant nose tackle Jim Burt is scheduled to visit Oxnard for a day of instruction under his old head coach next week. And when is Lawrence Taylor scheduled to do the same? Basically, whenever LT darn pleases. ... After the end of practice, Henson put in extra time working on touch in the deep throws.
