Spears Injured; MRI Scheduled

Cowboys first round draft pick was carted off the field during Friday morning's practice.

Cowboys first round draft pick Marcus Spears was carted off the field on Friday during training camp for what appears to be a knee injury.

He is scheduled to have an MRI exam that will be conducted on his ankle, knee and groin.

"I just think somebody got him from behind a little bit," Bill Parcells said Friday morning. "We are going to do a scan on his knee, that's the first thing. I don't know. We'll know here in a little while. I don't want to speculate.

"You don't like to see people get hurt."

The extent of the injury is not yet known, but his knee appears to be injured and he was unable to put any weight on it immediately after the injury, even though he later walked off on his own power.

Spears is one of two first round picks for the Cowboys in the 2005 NFL Draft. The former LSU start is expected to contend for a starting defensive end position in the Cowboys new 3-4 defense.
