Cowboys Interested in DB?

Interestingly, just as Cowboys coach Bill Parcells was announcing his desire for another defensive back with the ability to excel as a nickelback, the New York Jets were parting ways with nine-year vet and long-time "Parcells Guy'' Ray Mickens.

The Jets, working to sign Ty Law, apparently view Mickens as expendable.

Mickens told a New York paper this morning, "They let me go this morning," Mickens said. "We'll see what's next."

Mickens, as you may remember, is a Parcells Guy not only by virtue of his years with the Jets, but also because of the fact that Mickens is represented by Jimmy Sexton, who is also Parcells' agent and the agent for numerous Cowboys players.

The Cowboys reportedly attempted to acquire Mickens in trade earlier this year in exchange for Pete Hunter before eventually shipping Hunter to New York for a late draft pick.

Even with Mickens' ups and downs with the Jets, he has a reputation as a nickelback specialist -- and is it just coincidence that Parcells would broach the subject just as Mickens was packing his Jets gear?
