Tuesday Insider Camp Report

More insider news and notes from Oxnard, Calif, including an injury update on Jacob Rogers.

FULLBACK ISSUES: The Cowboys appear to be thin at fullback entering Saturday's preseason game at Arizona.

FB Darian Barnes will be held out of practice today and will likely not play in Saturday's preseason game against Arizona.

"His ankle just doesn't seem to be improving, I doubt he will play Saturday night," said Parcells.

Also, FB Erik Bickerstaff has a strained neck and is not full speed. He will be evaluated again later today. "We have to be careful with him. I think he'll be out there, but he probably won't be able to go full speed," added Parcells.

RAY MICKENS INTEREST?: With the New York Jets releasing veteran defensive back Ray Mickens yesterday, there has been speculation that the Cowboys would be interested in signing him to help bolster depth in the secondary.

"I think Ray is a good player, but right now, ... I think we will just look at what we got," said Parcells.

Mickens was released after the Jets signed veteran cornerback Ty Law.

CANTY UPDATE: With rookie Chris Canty going through full contact this week, many questions have been asked about his progress. According to Bill Parcells, so far so good.

"He's doing alright," said the Cowboys' third-year head coach. "I think we could be very fortunate there. I'm not sure yet, but I think we could be fortunate.

"He knows how to play this defense already, because he played it in college. I think he's a very very good prospect on what I've seen so far."

QUICK HITS: Jacob Rogers hurt his shoulder, the same one that was operated on last year during yesterday's second practice session ... Parcells said rookie Rob Petitti will play right tackle as a result of Rogers' injury. ... CB Jacques Reeves has been playing safety with the nickel unit since Saturday. ... Parcells said there is a "chance" that they could start four or five rookies on defense.
