Wednesday Training Camp Insider

News and notes on NT Jason Ferguson, rookie OLB Demarcus Ware, the back up quarterback situation, and rookie Reggie Love in this report!

SHOW HIM THE LOVE: Cowboys head coach Bill Parcells said Wednesday morning that he takes no credit for the acquisition of former Duke basketball player and football player Reggie Love.

"I will take no credit at all for that myself. A long time friend of mine, Doug Knotts told me about him," said Parcells. "His last few years in coaching, he was an administrative assistant at Duke. Reggie tried out last year at Green Bay as a wide receiver. He told me, 'put him at linebacker, and you might have something.'

"To Reggie's credit, he does not have a receiver's mentality or a basketball player's mentality."

Love continues to practice with the team as a reserve linebacker.

BETTER WITH AGE? Parcells was asked about the age of his team Wednesday morning. In particular, he was asked if it was better to have older players at certain positions."

"Yes," he replied. "I like the fact that Aaron Glenn has experience pretty much across the secondary. Glenn and Henry have had a very positive effect on Terence Newman, I believe.

"I'd like to have a little more experience at safety than I have right now.

"Running backs, we are pretty young, but that really goes with that position most of the time. They don't usually last that long."

BACK UP QB UPDATE Parcells continues to downplay the Cowboys' quarterback situation behind Drew Bledsoe.

On Drew Henson: "I'm hoping that it's going to play out in preseason. I think he'll play Saturday night and we'll see where he is. It is as simple as that."

On Tony Romo: "Tony had two turnovers in nine plays this morning," he said Wednesday morning. "One a fumble, and one an interception."

QUICK HITS: The Cowboys ran an 80-play scrimmage this morning ... Anthony Thomas had the longest run of the scrimmage of over 50 yards. ... Parcells said that if the season opener were today, Keith Davis would start at free safety. ... Parcells said he expects RT Jacob Rogers to play in against Arizona. ... Parcells said of rookie OLB Demarcus Ware: "He's got a lot on his plate right now. Mentally, he's struggling a little."
