Veteran kicker Billy Cundiff will be released by the Dallas Cowboys today after reaching an injury settlement with the club.
"It's another case of bad luck," said Bill Parcells. "He was having a pretty good camp."
An MRI earlier this week revealed that Cundiff suffered a torn quad, not a hip flexor injury as orginally thought.
Cundiff would have been out of action at least four to six weeks, had he stayed with the Cowboys.
Cundiff will likely be ready to play by Oct. 1.
Last season, Cundiff was solid, yet unspectacular, connecting on 20-of-26 field goals with a long of 49 yards. He also handled kickoffs, placing six of his 66 kickoffs into the endzone.
Veteran kicker Jose Cortez, who was a perfect (-for-3 on field goals during Monday night's 18-10 win over Seattle, will now take over as the starter.
"I thought Cortez did an excellent job the other night," Parcells added. "Obviously, it's his job to lose."
