Saturday News, Notes, & Rumblings

The draft is now less than one week away, we've got the latest going on around Valley Ranch. Draft news, Kevin Hardy news and more is contained in this report.

* Expect a deal to be completed between LB Kevin Hardy and the Dallas Cowboys early next week. Serious talks between the two have resumed after Hardy left Baltimore without a contract and Jerry Jones should have much more negociating power this time around. Look for a one or two year contract filled with incentives.

* Draft rumors are everywhere, but two cold facts are starting to emerge out of the mayhem. One, Quentin Jammer will most likely be gone by the time the Cowboys go on the clock with the number six pick. Jammer's agent contacted Jerry Jones early this past week to give him the bad news. Two, if he Jammer is gone, Dallas is going to draft Oklahoma safety Roy Williams. "I hope Jammer goes to Detroit and I go to Dallas," Williams said Friday afternoon at Valley Ranch.

"It's just a feeling I have that I'll be back here, and what I get from the coaches. It would be great to line up with Darren Woodson. I can play free safety too, and my dad is from Irving. Hands down, Dallas is the place I want to be."

* In case you missed it, Jerry Jones has said that he wants to use his first round pick on someone that can come in and become a starter right away. That all but gaurantees RB William Green, out of Boston College, won't be taken at #6. However, Green and UCLA RB DeShaun Foster were both at Valley Ranch yesterday. Jones has also indicated that he is becoming more unwilling to trade down in the draft.

* 19 players visited the Cowboys Friday afternoon. DE Julius Peppers elected not to come. Each of the draft prospects were given a physical and extensive discussions were had with the coaching staff and Jerry Jones. There were no on-the-field workouts, only meetings. Most players came away very impressed with what they saw, especially Jeramy Shockey, "I really liked meeting Jerry Jones. He's a real down-to-earth guy for an owner. He's a cool guy and he just tells it like it is. That's why they've had the kind of success they've had here."

* The Donte Stallworth (WR Tennessee) to Dallas rumor is just that- a rumor. Sources indicate that it simply is not going to happen.

* Finally, we'll close on an interesting note to think about. If Quentin Jammer is supposedly going to Detroit with the third pick in the draft, how come he hasn't been meet with the Lions' organization? Stay tuned.
