Memphis RB Talks Cowboys

MOBILE, AL. - checks in with Memphis RB DeAngelo Williams. What exactly did he have to say to Cowboys' owner Jerry Jones this week? Read on to find out!

One conversation with Memphis RB DeAngelo Williams and you immediately understand that he "gets it."

He understands the big business of football, and he also understands the importance of every single workout leading up to Saturday's Senior Bowl.

At the same time, he's also taking it all in stride.

"We know a little bit more about what's going on today so it's been fun. Yesterday we were all out here on the fly having to pick everything up quickly, but today it's different. It's been a fun week so far I'd say," Williams said.

One of the highlights of the week for the standout running back was a brief encounter Monday with Cowboys' owner Jerry Jones.

"It was interesting," said Williams of the meeting, which lasted approximately 20 minutes. "He walked up to me, and I was like, 'I know him from somewhere,' and he said, 'I'm Jerry Jones' and I was like, 'oooh!'

"He was there with Leon Lett. But when I found it was Jerry Jones I was in shock," he said.

Williams said he is well aware of the Cowboys' current depth chart at running back. But still, he was intrigued with the idea of playing for "America's Team."

"When I talked to Mr. Jones I was just answering questions like, 'yes' or 'no,' just giving him one word answers but to be honest, I'm just out here having fun. If they pick me up, they pick me up. If they don't, they don't. We had a good conversation yesterday and then I went about my business afterwards," Williams said.

The Memphis running back is projected by most draft experts to be taken in the first round, possibly among the first 10 picks of the draft.

During his first two workouts of the Senior Bowl, Williams has done nothing to damage those hopes, but he did check in at 5-feet-8 inches tall Monday morning, which is smaller than the 5-11/6-0 he was listed at prior to this week.

As a senior, Williams rushed 309 times for 1959 yards (178/game) and 18 touchdowns.
