Restricted Free Agents (3)
The Cowboys have three restricted free agents this year, and don't be surprised to see all of them receive a one-year tender of approximately $722,000 to reserve a right of first refusal.
Leading the way is S Keith Davis, a hard-hitter that also excels as one of the Cowboys' top special teams players.
S Keith Davis – He's Bill Parcells special teams' ace, and a work in progress at the free safety position. In all, he started 15 games at free safety and led the team with 16 special teams tackles. He may not be the best compliment to SS Roy Williams, but he's proven to be a capable back up if the Cowboys elect to draft or sign a better coverage safety this offseason. Davis should be back with the team in 2006.
LB Scott Shanle – The third-year veteran out of Nebraska appears to have the successfully make the transition from special teams player to every down player, if needed. Shanle started his first full season in Dallas as a special teams standout, finishing the year fourth on the team with 15 special teams tackles. He was a vital cog in a kickoff coverage unit that led the NFL in opponents return average (17.5-yard avg.). In 2005, he recorded 45 total tackles, including 1.5 sacks playing more as a linebacker. Shanle, like Keith Davis, should be back with the Cowboys in 2006.
OT Torrin Tucker – Tucker has played multiple positions on the offensive line during his three years with the Cowboys, but he finally settled in at tackle in 2005. Unfortunately, he was responsible for giving up the second-most sacks in the league (12.5). While Tucker struggled at times, the Cowboys likely will issue a minimum tenders to protect their right of first refusal if a team signs Tucker to an offer sheet.
