Mini-camp Well Underway in Dallas

The Cowboys began their final 3-day practice session before training camp Friday afternoon and continued another session Saturday. "I think we are bit more enthusiastic this time around. We felt we finished on a strong note last year, even with the last loss at Detroit we did some good things," said Dave Campo.

* The Cowboys practiced both Friday morning and afternoon to show the players what to expect during training camp in San Antonio later this month. "Today was very similar to training camp, alot of teaching in the mornings and alot implementing in the afternoons," said Dave Campo. "Our practice was a little different today because players had to remain focused."

* CB Dwayne Goodrich had a great day on the practice fields Saturday. He was able to break up several passes, one with an athletic leap in the air, and his ability to plant his foot and cut seemed to be a notch above what it's been in the past couple of weeks. Goodrich suffering a ruptured Achilles during training camp last year.

* Campo seemed very pleased with how the team has practiced over the course of the first two days. "We got some things accomplished mentally today. Our 7-on-7 drills went better I thought. The morning practice was really light. A lot of teaching," said Campo.

* Defensive tackle La'Roi Glover was the only player not in attendance Friday and Saturday. Glover has been excused from practice all week after getting married last weekend.

* The Cowboys released two special teams players on Saturday. Punter Maciek Szaferski and kicker Zac Derr each were given their unconditional release. That now leaves Dallas with two placekickers and two punters on the roster headed into training camp.

Billy Cundiff and Tim Sedar are still left at placekicker and Filip Filipovic and Micah Knorr are left at punter.

* Dave Campo had the following to say on the progression of Quincy Carter this offseason. "Quincy has come back with the idea that he's the guy. He's very mature, he feels like he can do it now, and he feels comfortable."

* Don't forget, the Cowboys still have to sign their 9 draft choices. The organization sent out proposals to 8 of those draft choices late Friday evening. Interestingly enough, Roy Williams was not among the 8. Stephan Jones and Williams' agent will sit down face to face Monday afternoon to try and hammer out a deal.

* There has only been one serious injury to report over the last two days of camp. WR DeVeren Johnson will miss the next four weeks with a broken finger on his right hand. The injury occured early Friday morning and will likely hurt his chances at making the team.

* WR Randal Williams ran an unbelievable 4.04 in the 40-yard dash during the Cowboys' timing day two weeks ago. Incredibly enough, three clocks were used to time him. One hand-held and two automated timers were used, and an average of the three times produced the final number. That certainly won't hurt his chances at making the team as a 2nd team wide out.

* Finally, in case you missed it, the Cowboys' game against the expansion Houston Texans on September 8th sold out in less than 20 minutes Saturday morning.
