Parcells Mum on T.O.

OXNARD, Calif. - Bill Parcells met with the media after Monday morning's practice, discussing roster moves, Terrell Owens, Sam Hurd, Terry Glenn and more!

ROSTER MOVES: The Dallas Cowboys announced three roster moves Monday, including the release one quarterback and signing another one.

Undrafted free agent QB Jeff Mroz (Yale) was released while former North Carolina QB Matt Baker was signed.

Baker had most recently spent time with the Houston Texans.

Parcells also announced a new cut during his press conference.

"We also cut Kai Parham," he said. "The linebacker out of Virginia. So our numbers are at 81 right now."

PARCELLS SCRIMMAGE ASSESSMENT: Parcells said he took away a little good and a little bad from Saturday's scrimmage.

"I thought there were a couple of guys that did a good job and a couple of young players need some work," he said. "We had 98 plays in the scrimmage. Got the field goal guys a couple of kicks. That's about the best you could hope for.

"I was very pleased with Jay Ratliff. He looks good. He's going to make a run at the starting job. With or without (Spears). He looks like he's ready to go. We'll see in the games but he's looking very good.

Parcells also had encouraging words for undrafted free agent wide receiver Sam Hurd on Monday.

"He made a few plays Saturday. He's young and inexperienced but he's in very good physical condition. He's extremely bright. He knows more than on position already.

"I think he'll be in contention for a roster spot."

Parcells also said he was pleased with the small number of mental errors by his team Saturday.

"We didn't have too many which is good. Even the young kids didn't make too many which is usually the exception rather than the rule."

QUICK HITS: Parcells said of Terry Glenn, who missed Monday morning's practice, "He's got real bad blisters on his feet. We'll give him a day." ... Terrell Owens did not practice again on Monday and Parcells said that he had no other information to offer regarding his status for the coming week. "There's nothing more to know," he said. "Maybe then not knowing exactly is all I'm capable of knowing at this point." ... Parcells had positive comments regarding second year linebacker Kevin Burnett. "Burnett is going to be a good cover linebacker I think," he said. ... Parcells also cited Lousaka Polite as another player who has improved since last season. Mike Vanderjagt, who was perfect on two field goal attempts Saturday, also received "comforting" words from Parcells Monday. "I was glad to see Vanderjagt make some kicks. That was comforting." ... The only negative mentioned from Saturday's scrimmage was the pass blocking of the tight ends.

NEXT UP: The Cowboys return to the practice fields at 5 PM Pacific Time Monday evening. Parcells said the team could practice one or two times Tuesday, pending on what happens in Monday evening's practice.

COUNTDOWN TO GAMEDAY: The Cowboys have just five more days to prepare for their first preseason game of 2006. Dallas travels to Seattle on Aug. 12 for a road game against the Seahawks. The season opener in Jacksonville is now just 34 days away.

QUOTE TO NOTE: "We've only had 14 practice. We'll probably have 45 practices before our first regular season game. I'm not too worried about where we are at this moment." - Bill Parcells on where his team stands after the first 10 days of training camp.

QUOTE TO NOTE II: "He will have a major role for the Cowboys if he stays healthy." - Bill Parcells on the role of back up running back Marion Barber this season.
