Cowboys Deny Contact from Cleveland

The Browns were interested in talking to a Cowboys assistant about becoming an assistant in Cleveland.

From the Senior Bowl in Mobile, Ala., Scout.com has received breaking news in the NFL coaching world on three different fronts.

* Scout.com has learned the Arizona Cardinals have fired offensive line coach Steve Loney and have replaced him with Pittsburgh Steelers OL coach Russ Grimm.

* The Cleveland Browns were denied permission to talk to Dallas Cowboys assistant coach Tony Sparano to become their offensive line coach.

Sparano is one of several reported assistants being considered for the head coaching job in Dallas vacated by Bill Parcells.

Sparano took charge of the Cowboys offensive line and became the running game coordinator in 2005.

Brown served as the Browns' offensive line coach for one season before coming to Dallas.

* Finally, in other coaching news, the Carolina Panthers are said to be close to hiring Cleveland Browns offensive line coach Jeff Davidson as their offensive line coach. Davidson's contract was up in Cleveland.
