Update: Haley Staying

A quick update on Todd Haley: This afternoon he cancelled his planned interview with the Dolphins after the Cardinals extended the contract of the offensive coordinator through 2010 with a raise we're told puts him in the "seven-figure range.''

Haley, the former Cowboys assistant and Bill Parcells crony, was to be a candidate for the Miami head coaching job working under Parcells.

There will be no interview, but there is a benefit of being a "Parcells Guy'': Haley seemed unlikely to beat out Dallas aide Tony Sparano for the job. But the way this went down, Haley gets his name circulated as a head-coaching candidate in the future. And Parcells' flirtation with Haley muscles Arizona management into making darn sure they keep him.

Everybody wins. … except the Cowboys, who again seem likely to lose Sparano and will almost certainly focus on retaining offensive coordinator Jason Garrett – maybe with a Haley-style deal to prevent him from leaving for an ostensibly better job.
