The Javon Walker Watch is On

The Ranch Report is keeping an eye on several developing situations, including one with former Denver wide receiver Javon Walker.

As far as acquiring free agents outside the organization, the Dallas Cowboys have several pressing needs that must be addressed in the next two months.

First and foremost, Dallas needs to get younger and faster at wide receiver. With aging stars Terrell Owens and Terry Glenn entering their mid-30's, owner Jerry Jones knows he has to acquire more weapons for gun-slinging quarterback Tony Romo.

Two names have been circulated here in recent days: Denver wide receiver Javon Walker and Carolina Panthers wide out Drew Carter.

For now, TheRanchReport.com will be focusing in on Walker.

The talk was earlier this week Walker to Dallas for a fifth-round draft pick. Not surprisingly, TheRanchReport.com has been hearing that's not going to happen and earlier today sources with several media outlets have indicated Walker has been officially released from Denver.

Calls made to Walker's agent, Kennard McGuire, have not been immediately returned.

Walker was released before March 4 so the Broncos don't have to pay him a $5.4 million roster bonus.

According to several sources, Dallas is indeed interested in acquiring Walker, but only at the right price.

After trading Jason Ferguson to Miami earlier today, an additional $2.4 million in cap room has been cleared. That should leave just under $3 million available at the present time.

Again- that is a critical component of the Cowboys being able to sign Walker as it would have to be a cap-friendly deal.

Two years ago Walker recorded 69 receptions for 1,084 yards and eight touchdowns in his first season in Denver, but he re-injured his right knee last season and underwent surgery. He returned to action but finished with just 26 receptions for 287 yards and no touchdowns in eight games.

As of now, the official Javon Walker watch is on here at TheRanchReport.com.
