Dantzler Activated for Thursday

Former Clemson great Woodrow Dantzler, the first quarterback ever to throw for 2,000 and rush for 1,000 yards in the same season, has been activated by the Dallas Cowboys to play against the Washington Redskins on Thanksgiving Day.

The Dallas Cowboys moved running back Woody Dantzler from the practice squad to the active roster Tuesday afternoon after the coaching staff decided that they wanted to see Dantzler return kicks before the end of the season.

Dantzler signed with Dallas as an undrafted free agent earlier this year and had an impressive preseason before being released after the last round of cuts in late August.

The former Clemson star threw for a touchdown against the Carolina Panthers on a halfback pass, and returned a kickoff 97 yards for another score just one week later against the Atlanta Falcons.

To make room for Dantzler, the Cowboys placed veteran safety Darren Woodson on injured reserve. Woodson will miss the final five games of the year with an abdominal/groin strain.

The final decision to activate Dantzler came down after Woodson aggravated the injury two weeks ago against the Indianapolis Colts.
