Checking In with Anthony Spencer

IRVING, Tex. - The Cowboys' first-round draft choice in 2007 missed the first game of the season while recovering from minor knee surgery, but has returned to practice on a limited basis this week as Dallas gets ready to host the Philadelphia Eagles in the 2008 home opener.

Is (preparation for the 2008 season) much different from last year, as far as not thinking as much, just reacting?
A: Yeah, just because I've played in the defense for a year, so just the experience level is really different.

Have you got a target date for when you think you'll be back?
A: I want to be back yesterday, but we'll see. I'm trying to get back for the second game, if possible, but if not, I'm just taking it day-by-day right now.

How does the knee feel now?
A: A lot better, since I had the surgery.

As a team, how is it different getting ready for a regular-season game, now that the games mean something?
A: It's what we've been working for this entire offseason, so once the (regular) season comes around, everything's for real now, so you really can't have any mistakes. It's what we've worked for this offseason, coming back this season and being able to finish, like we didn't do last season.

How tough was it for you to have to miss the opener?
A: Being injured is part of the game, so I'm basically just taking it day-by-day. I'm (trying not to) get too frustrated right now.

Are you getting antsy?
A: Antsy? I've been antsy for a couple of weeks now, but I really can't do much about it. I'm ready to start playing.
