Wednesday Practice Notes

WR Roy Williams missed practice on Wednesday because of a family matter.

His son had his tonsils taken out. Williams is expected back for Thursday's practice.

* CB Terence Newman practiced Wednesday for the first time since undergoing hernia surgery four weeks ago. He has missed the past five games. He is expected to play against the Redskins next week after the bye.

* G Kyle Kosier practiced on Wednesday without incident and will play next week against the Redskins. He has missed eight of the first nine games with a sprained foot. The Cowboys have missed him dearly because of the comfort he brings to left tackle Flozell Adams.

* S Roy Williams was the most ridiculed player in Dallas the past two seasons not named Terrell Owens. Now that he is lost for the season with a broken arm, he is starting to get appreciated again. The Cowboys were gashed for 200 yards rushing by the Giants on Sunday two weeks after allowing 160 yards to Rams running back Steven Jackson.

"He was our second-leading tackler last year and missed two games (actually one)," head coach Wade Phillips said. "Anytime you lose a starter, and I know everybody, now they're looking for Roy Williams. Before it was, 'Wow, get him out. He doesn't need to be in there.' Well, you know the guy did make some plays and he's a force on the field, and certainly you miss him."

* RB Felix Jones did not practice on Wednesday. He missed the past three games with a hamstring pull. The Cowboys hoped he might be ready to go this week. But they still hope he will be ready for next week's game against the Redskins after the bye.
