Cowboys Secure 5th Overall Pick

The Dallas Cowboys learned Wednesday afternoon that they will indeed have the 5th pick in the upcoming NFL Draft in April. It was orginally thought that a coin flip between the Cowboys and the Cardinals would be necessary after both teams finished with 5-11 records.

However, the Cowboys automatically win the tiebreaker because of their head-to-head matchup with Arizona, which was a 9-7 overtime loss back on October 20th.

NFL spokesman Michael Signora made the announcement yesterday. After the first round, the two teams alternate selections with Arizona picking ahead of the Cowboys in the second, fourth and sixth rounds.

With the fifth pick in the 2003 NFL Draft, the Cowboys will have their highest draft position since 1991, when they took defensive tackle Russell Maryland as the first overall selection.
