One new rumor has Dallas going after Atlanta offensive tackle Tyson Clabo (6-6, 332). The Cowboys are in dire need of offensive line depth, and collect massive blockers — a description Clabo clearly fits.
Clabo is the type of player Dallas should target: big and versatile enough to play either tackle or guard. But RanchReport.com was told by a source who asked not to be identified that it's "pretty unlikely" the Cowboys will go after Clabo.
Signed by Denver in 2004 as an undrafted free agent out of Wake Forest, Clabo didn't play in any games as rookie. Since moving on to Atlanta, however, he has started all 53 games in which he has played, including 16 in each of the last two seasons.
The problem is that Atlanta gave Clabo a first-round tender, so if Dallas wants him, the Cowboys will have to send the 27th pick to the Falcons, and then invest the dollars needed to sign him to a multi-year contract, since they surely won't part with a first-round pick for a one-year rental.
The Cowboys aren't averse to signing Clabo, the source said, but isn't inclined to spend a first-round pick on him. Clabo is versatile enough to play tackle or guard, but isn't likely to accept backup money. If he were viewed as a sure long-term replacement for Flozell Adams, the Cowboys would consider making the move, but he is more of a mauling run blocker than he is an athletic pass blocker, and at the cost of a first-round pick, the Cowboys would rather have someone six or seven years younger.
