Veteran Jake Grove lost his starting job this summer, and now he's lost his job with the Dolphins. The 2009 free agent acquisition had his contract terminated on Thursday as the Dolphins continue their roster shuffling. Re-signed to take Grove's roster spot was guard/center Cory Procter, who had been released on Sunday when the Dolphins claimed four players off waivers.
Procter, signed this offseason after he spent five seasons in Dallas, will back up new starting center Joe Berger
As for Grove, he played in 12 games with 10 starts in his only season with the Dolphins.
He has played more than 12 games only once in his six-year career and battled knee and shoulder injuries this summer. Those injuries, combined with his hefty salary, undoubtedly led to this release, considering this regime's low tolerance for oft-injured players.
The four backups on the offensive line now include, in addition to Procter, Pat McQuistan, Lydon Murtha and Jermey Parnell.
