The Daily Take will be posted every weekday at 3 p.m. and will offer our opinion on a pertinent topic involving the Dolphins. Today we look at the search for a punt returner.

Well, it looks as though the Dolphins are going to lose out in the battle to try to land former Baltimore and Houston wide receiver/kick returner Jermaine Lewis, and that is not good news.

What might be worse news is that Coach Dave Wannstedt was quoted as saying he would have no trouble going with Travis Minor as the punt returner.

Sorry, Coach, but we have a major problem with Minor being the punt returner.

The reason for going after Lewis was to try to get somebody back there with home-run ability, a guy who was a threat to take it the distance every time.

Minor is a solid, complementary, role player, but he is not explosive. We repeat, he is not explosive. Not in the least.

We don't like him as a kickoff returner, and we certainly don't want to see him returning punts, either.

For the most part, Wannstedt has made sound personnel decisions during his tenure with the Dolphins. But settling for Minor as the punt returner would be a major gaffe.

Let's hope we don't have to find out.
