The Dolphins added a veteran on defense on Monday, but it wasn't Chargers linebacker Junior Seau. Rather, the Dolphins signed unrestricted free agent Jeff Zgonina away from the St. Louis Rams.

Zgonina started at right defensive tackle for the Rams last season and finished with a career-high 81 tackles and four sacks.

Since entering the league as a seventh-round choice of the Pittsburgh Steelers in 1993, Zgonina has played with Pittsburgh, Carolina, Atlanta and Indianapolis, in addition to the Rams.

Zgonina played collegiately at Purdue, and he was the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year as a senior.

Zgonina signed a four-year contract that reportedly included a $500,000 signing bonus.
