2011 Dolphins Draft: Defensive Backs

With the draft fast approaching, we break down the Dolphins roster by position and examine the likelihood the team will spend a pick or more at that spot on the weekend of April 28-30. We continue this series by looking at the defensive backs.

?The Dolphins have focused on the secondary the last two years, and as a result have a young group with a lot of ability.

Vontae Davis, Sean Smith and Chris Clemons all started last year as second-year players, and rookies Nolan Carroll and Reshad Jones also saw a lot of action.

Yeremiah Bell is the leader of the group as the starting strong safety, although cornerback Will Allen could share that role next season after he restructured his contract to return.

The Dolphins defense was very good last season, but it could have been excellent had it not been for so many dropped interceptions. That said, the only reason the Dolphins would spend a draft pick on a defensive back this year is if they came upon a prospect with dynamite playmaking ability.

But this is clearly not a high-priority area.
