The Daily Take will be posted every weekday at 3 p.m. and will offer our opinion on a pertinent topic involving the Dolphins. Today we discuss the release of Ray Lucas.

It didn't take a rocket scientist to figure out the Dolphins were going to release Ray Lucas at some point this offseason.

The Dolphins actually did him a favor by doing this week, while there's still time for him to hook up with another team in time for minicamps.

The most logical destination for Lucas would appear to be Dallas, where he would be reunited with Coach Bill Parcells. It was Parcells who brought Lucas into the league as a special teams guy first, and the two are still close.

With the Dolphins, Lucas' fate was sealed at the end of last season and shortly thereafter.

When Coach Dave Wannstedt mentioned a couple of times after the season that the Dolphins' biggest problem was losing their starting quarterback, you knew it didn't bode well for Lucas.

Now, the release of Lucas left the Dolphins with Jay Fiedler, Sage Rosenfels and undrafted rookie free agents Josh Blankenship and Lon Sherriff.

The hope is that Brian Griese will be added to that list after June 1. If he's not, then maybe Neil O'Donnell.

The Dolphins clearly can't go into the season with their current group of QBs. But one way or another, it was clear the Dolphins and Lucas need to go in separate directions.
