Tuesday Recap

There were few major deals reached around the NFL on Tuesday when teams could sign rookies and begin negotiations with veteran free agents. While no announcements were made, the Dolphins reportedly added some rookie free agents while losing one of their unrestricted free agents.

That news, quarterback Tyler Thigpen agreeing to terms with the Buffalo Bills, wasn't a great surprise. Even though the Dolphins reportedly made an offer to Thigpen, he enjoyed his best success in the NFL while playing for Chan Gailey in Kansas City and Gailey now is the head coach in Buffalo.

From the Dolphins' standpoint, it's really not a big loss because the idea is to try to get an upgrade over Chad Henne at quarterback, and Thigpen showed last year he wasn't that guy.

Thigpen was one of the Dolphins' nine unrestricted free agents, the others being Ronnie Brown, Patrick Cobbs, Tony McDaniel, Pat McQuistan, Quentin Moses, Chad Pennington, Cory Procter and Ricky Williams.

Of those, the biggest priority should be McDaniel, who's a big part of the Dolphins' deep and talented defensive line. We'd also expect McQuistan to return because of his familiarity with Tony Sparano and the fact he's not likely to get many offers around the league.

Based on several published reports, the Dolphins also signed as many as nine undrafted rookie free agents. The list includes QB Pat Devlin from Delaware, RB Nic Grigsby from Arizona, WR/KR Phillip Livas from Louisiana Tech, TE Brett Brackett from Penn State, T D.J. Jones from Nebraska, G Garrett Chisolm from South Carolina, OLB Jonathan Freeny from Rutgers, OLB Quinton Spears from Prairie View A&M and CB Vince Agnew from Central Michigan.
